Fans of the Silverado have been waiting for the 2022 refresh of this rugged and reliable pickup truck with baited breath, and it’s easy to see why. With improved torque, a new off-road trim, and a sturdier look, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 has plenty of new developments to get excited about.

With impressive torque and assertive styling, the fourth generation Silverado was first unveiled in 2019. Since then, customers have been delighted with its comfort and adaptability, but above all with its practicality and powerful capabilities. From the base level Work Truck to the opulent High Country, this full-size pickup truck remains a tough worker that can handle whatever gets thrown at it. The versatile options available also mean that it’s easy to individualize according to your specific needs. With three possible bed lengths, it can also be configured with a single, double, or crew cab, rear or all-wheel drives, and 8 or 10-speed transmission. And there’s a range of powertrains, with the 2.7l turbo, the 5.3l and 6.2l Ecotec V8, and the 3.0l Duramax diesel engines available.

New for 2022

In addition to the Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High County, the 2022 refresh saw the debut of a ninth trim, the ZR2. Specifically designed for optimal off-roading performance, it features the 6.2l Ecotec V8 engine as standard, upgraded suspension and MultiMatic DSSV dampers, skids plates, and steel bumper to improve approach angles.

Whether you prefer to drive your Silverado on or off the beaten track, though, the 2022 updates offer plenty of other enhancements.

Updated Style

Dark Ash, Sand Dune, and Glacier Blue Metallic have been added to the range of exterior colors available on the Silverado. Chevy also took the opportunity in 2022 to update the front end of the vehicle, with a new front fascia on all models and lower headlights to emphasize the truck’s strength and stability. Trims from the LT upwards have also seen a redesign of the interior, where smooth, horizontal lines highlight the sense of space.

Enhanced Tech

All models that feature the interior redesign now also come equipped with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 13.4-inch touchscreen. The system connects to smartphones with Google services, Android Auto, or Apple Carplay. And with Chevy Safety Assist now included as standard on all models, all Silverado drivers have the support of active safety features.

There’s also new advanced trailering technology available, as well as Super Cruise driver-assist technology on the High Country trim.

Improved Torque

Following improvements to the block casting and crankshaft in the 2022 Silverado LTD, the vehicle now holds the lead in several in-class comparisons. The discontinuation of the 4.3l V6 engine means that the Work Truck now comes fitted with the 2.7l turbo engine as standard. And with a 20% improvement on this engine’s torque, now weighing in at 420 pound-feet, this means that Chevrolet offers more torque on the base model than any competitor.

With a focus on making favorite features of this sturdy classic even better, while expanding the range of options, this refresh looks set to increase the Silverado’s fan base further.
